Curt Biehn, Mississippi Lime Company (MLC) Flue Gas Treatment (FGT) Business Director was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2019 Reinhold Conference in Birmingham. This conference is coordinated by Reinhold Environmental in conjunction with Utilities and Vendors who participate in the technical exchanges on the Pollution Control industry for coal-fired power plants.
Each year, the Reinhold conference honors two individuals – one each from a Utility and a Vendor to the industry – who have made important contributions to the industry over the course of their careers. Curt was toasted (and lightly roasted) during a dinner before the conference and then honored the next day immediately following the keynote speech.
Curt has worked for MLC for nearly 12 years, during which he has been an instrumental resource for the coal-fired utility industry. Prior to joining MLC, Curt worked for Elementis Pigments and Afton Chemical in technical, operations, and quality roles. Curt earned a Master’s Degree in Organic Chemistry from the Ohio State University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry from Southern Illinois University – Edwardsville. In Curt’s current role as FGT Business Director, he has oversight for MLC’s business development, product development and applications technology for all FGT related opportunities. Curt has three patents under his name that highlight the value that he has brought to provide novel, cost-effective acid-gas control technologies to the industry.
Since 2008, MLC has made valuable contributions to the Air Pollution Control industry. The company advanced the industry with valuable testing that taught end users about hydrated lime best practices. MLC developed new products such as High Reactivity Hydrated Lime for improved performance. The company was a leader in optimizing feed points for hydrated lime to offer users significant cost savings. MLC also offers site demonstration and flue gas monitoring capabilities through Breen Energy Solutions, an acquisition that occurred in 2015. Finally, MLC expanded production at Ste. Genevieve MO, Verona KY, Chester SC, and Weirton WV to support the Air Pollution Control industry.
Curt is highly valued and respected within MLC as well as with our customers and constituents. We are extremely proud of Curt for this award and look forward to continued successes.
