Sustainability

Our Journey

Lime is a versatile mineral that has played an integral part of everyday life for centuries. For over 100 years, MLC has been producing products from one of the richest limestone reserves in the world. Protecting this natural resource will ensure that we can support the evolving needs of society for many more years to come. That is one reason why MLC is committed to conducting business in an environmentally, socially, and ethically responsible manner.

Developing a pathway to a more sustainable future will require setting bold ambitions.

Reliable Quality, Responsibly

The objectives for sustainability at MLC are driven by priorities in three areas: Environmental, Social, and Governance. By promoting stewardship, ethical management, and responsibility in these areas, we can create positive impacts for both people and planet.

Action Matters

MLC views ESG as a continuous improvement activity requiring dedicated leadership and engagement at all levels of the organization. Below are examples of recent activities focused on ESG improvements.

Examples of current ESG projects:

Pay Equity Analysis

Conducted annually to provide assurance of fair, unbiased compensation

Emissions

We are making year-over-year improvements to reduce emissions across all sites globally, including capital projects to update our kilns and equipment to the latest technologies

Supply Chain

We have conducted a Human Rights Risk Assessment of our supply chain, work with customers to help them understand and reduce Scope 3 emissions, and set up distribution terminals to reduce emissions associated with trucking.

Waste Management

Continuously driving down waste at all our sites globally, as well as offering services to help our customers reduce and manage waste at their operations

Carbon Capture

We capture a portion of the CO2 we generate for re-use in circular production processes.

Green Energy

We are actively shifting toward greener energy sources globally, including bio-based energy through anaerobic digestion and alternative fuel pilot testing

Biorenewability

We work with the World Bird Sanctuary to ensure our operations do not negatively impact local ecosystems, commit volunteer hours to environmental preservation, and have restored over 65 acres of quarried land at our SIngleton Birch operation, planting over 20,000 trees.
