Hydrated Lime

Hydrated lime, also known as calcium hydroxide {Ca(OH)2}, is a refined mineral product. Calcium oxide is stoichiometrically reacted with water in a controlled process to form a hydrated lime product that has the consistency of a fine white powder containing less than 1% residual moisture.

Calcium Oxide + Water = Calcium Hydroxide + Heat
{CaO} + {H2O} = {Ca(OH)2}

  • Hydrated Lime can be formed into architectural lime putty, which is used in construction and restoration applications.

Standard Hydrated Lime

Hydrated lime products are typically used in chemical manufacturing, water and waste water treatment, acid neutralization and other environmental applications.

Hydrated lime plays a major role in construction applications for mortar and stucco applications as a soil-stabilizing material and as an anti-strip additive in asphalt.

Hydrated lime has applications as a sorbent in flue gas treatment for the control of SO2 and S03 emissions applications.

The Standard Hydrated Lime products are manufactured at our plant in Ste. Genevieve, Missouri and include the following:

  • Hydrated Lime, standard grade, is a refined hydrated lime with good flow properties.
  • Hydrated Lime, SP grade, is a hydrated lime with low iron and magnesium and high available and total Ca(OH)2.
  • Hydrated Lime FGT grade is a high porosity hydrated lime with small median particle size, good flow properties and high total and available Ca(OH)2.
  • Hydrated Lime HR grade is a high reactivty hydrated lime used in acid gas applications.

Hydrated Lime is available to be shipped via rail or truck.

Hydrated Lime is also available in packaged 50-pound bags, special packaging and/or bulk bags.

Activated Hydrated Lime

Mississippi Lime Activated Hydrated Lime “AHL” offers very low grit attributes, dosage reduction over Standard Hydrated Lime, less variability and faster reacting speed. Operational savings opportunities for water treatment applications.

Available to be shipped via truck. Special packaging and/or bulk bags can be accommodated through our packaging partners.

Hydrated Lime FGT

This high purity hydrated lime is the industry leader for DSI for SO3 mitigation. Mississippi Lime Flue Gas Treatment grade assures the customer of a reactive product (>21 m2/g BET surface area) that is proven in the toughest full-scale applications.

High Reactivity Hydrated Lime

The second generation product for DSI. This material is tailor-made for applications where high reactivity and performance are required.

The key advantage of the new High Reactivity Hydrated Lime is its ability to react very rapidly to effectively capture acid gases. So even if a plant or utility only has short existing duct runs and short reaction times, the new high reactive hydrate can still capture the acid gases present in the flue gas. This provides a control option both for acid gases, and when SO3 is a concern in mercury control programs. There are several situations where this product type is beneficial. A more reactive DSI sorbent allows the end user to remove more pollutant(s) than with current DSI-grade sorbents. More reduction allows plants to meet increasingly stringent acid gas limits. Alternatively, the end user can use less sorbent to achieve similar pollutant emission levels and save on costs. Users requiring high in flight acid gas removal will benefit from Higher Reactivity Hydrate Lime, making it an attractive option for systems co-injecting a mercury removal sorbent. Users with marginal ESPs can also benefit by using less hydrated lime to meet pollutant removal requirements.

Liquid Calcium Hydroxide

Liquid Calcium Hydroxide (LCH) is used in water treatment, waste water treatment, acid neutralization and as a substitute in many “liquid caustic” applications. Dust free, LCH can be the solution to many alkali handling problems. The micro-particulated version is produced by our micro-particulation process to decrease particle size and increase reactivity and surface area. Both products combine high surface area and high total calcium hydroxide making them ideal scrubbing reagents for the removal of SO2 and SO3 from flue gas.

There are two types of Liquid Calcium Hydroxide manufactured at our plant in Ste. Genevieve, Missouri:

  • Liquid Calcium Hydroxide is a 38% solids homogenous slurry with a mean particle size of 6 microns

All products are available to be shipped via truck. Special packaging can be accommodated through our packaging partners.

Microcal® H Calcium Hydroxide

The Mississippi Lime MicroCal® H Calcium Hydroxide family of products is used in chemical processing where high purity hydrated lime is required. Many chemists requiring high purity lime specify one of the MicroCal® H products – the standard for high purity since 1907.

MicroCal® HF is utilized as a raw material for many chemical processes due to its high total calcium hydroxide content, low impurity levels and consistent product attributes. MicroCal® HFT20 has all of the benefits of MicroCal® HF as well as controlled top size and steep particle size distribution.

All products are available to be shipped via rail or truck. MicroCal® HF Calcium Hydroxide is also available in 50-pound bags packaged in Ste. Genevieve, Missouri. MicroCal® HFT20 is available in bulk bags from Ste. Genevieve, Missouri.

VitaCal® H Food Grade Calcium Hydroxide

Mississippi Lime VitaCal® H Calcium Hydroxide is a high purity product which meets or exceeds the 12th Edition Food Chemical Codex specifications. Because of purity and consistency, food processing chemists have specified Mississippi Lime VitaCal® products for more than 40 years. With ultra low lead (less than 0.1 ppm) and arsenic (less than VitaCal® H) is one of the highest purity calcium hydroxides available for all of your Food Chemical Codex applications.

VitaCal® H Calcium Hydroxide is available as both a powder, VitaCal® H and as the liquid VitaCal® LCH.

All products are available to be shipped by rail or truck in both bulk and packaged forms. Special packaging can be accommodated through our packaging partners.

PetroCal® H Calcium Hydroxide

The PetroCal® H Calcium Hydroxide family of products is designed to meet the exacting requirements of the petroleum additives industry. PetroCal® H Calcium Hydroxide can be designed to meet specific sizing and purity requirements for the high performance petroleum and lubricant additive industry.
